4. Make a list of the type of submission sites most suited for your article. Blog Comments for SEO Back Links

It is widely know that getting back links to your site will improve your rankings with the search engines but getting links by leaving blog comments is commonly over looked.

There are a lot of people out there that will tell you don't bother to use blog comments because all the blogs have no follow tags now and the search engines don't record the links.

There is a trace of truth to this but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't use blog comments to get back links because there are some blogs that don't have the no follow tags on their comments.

The default installation of WordPress automatically adds the no follow tags to the comments but if you know what you are doing you can find blogs that don't have the no follow tag or will remove the no follow tag in return for you making a certain number of posts.

But you should I am going to cover blog comment etiquette before I tell you how to find these blogs that will remove the no follow from your comments.

Your comments MUST BE on topic, if can't come up with a comment on topic don't leave one.

If the post you are commenting on is about WordPress plugins don't leave a comment about sports fishing. This is common sense but you would be surprise at how many comments like this I delete.

When you are writing your comments don't put any links in the body of the comment. Not only is this poor etiquette it can actually get you listed on the comment spam lists if you are reported by the blog owners. You can put a link in the comment body if, and only if, it is a resource to something in the post.

I recommend that you set your blog up so that if there are links in the body of the comment it will go to the comment moderation. This way you will have to approve the comment before it shows up on your blog. This will keep the spammy comments of your blog.

Now your name or I should say the form field where you enter your name. This should be your name or your moniker. For example I will use Randy The Hermit because more people know me that way than by my normal last name. Your moniker can have keywords in it (only helps if there are not any no follow tags) but it should be related to you or what you do. For example if you teach people how to blog you could use the moniker Blog Boy or Blogging Teacher but your moniker should stay the same no matter what you use for a link.

That is brief overview of comment etiquette, basically it is the "Golden Rule" don't do anything on another person's blog you wouldn't want done on yours. But I bet there are still of bunch of you asking why you should bother if the no follow tad is in place?

This question can be given a few answers, such as:

1.With or without the no follow tag it is still a link to your site. You can get over 1000 links to your site by leaving 5 comments a day for a year. These links will be seen by 1000's of people that might come to your site.

2.If you comments adds value to the topic of the post the author and readers will start to recognize your name and you will be branding yourself as an expert.

3.Just like above if your comment is interesting people will click on your link out of curiosity just to see what else you have to say.

4.Just because the major search engines abide by the no follow tag doesn't mean everybody does. The last time I checked Ask would follow no follow tags and there are some ad services that do their own back link testing that will follow these links and this could raise the amount you collect for showing their ads.

Now how to tell if the comments have the no follow tag applied to them.

One way is to go to the blog and find a post with comments and look at the page source, find the comment and see if it has no follow tag on the link. This is a pain but it works.

The good news is that you don't have to do it that way. If you are using FireFox or Flock as your browser you can get an addon that will highlight all the no follow tags on a page. It is called SEO for FireFox and you can get it from SEOTools.com or you can search SEO for FireFox addon in Google.

Once this is installed all no follow links will be highlighted in red so they are easy to notice. If the link (the name) in the blog comment isn't highlighted that mean the no follow is shut off for the comments on that blog.

People that run WordPress blogs want you to leave comments and they don't want spam comments so a lot of them have started using a plugin that rewards the people that comment frequently, this plugin is called Lucia's Linky Love.

How it works it the owner of the blog can set the plugin so that after so many posts the no follow tag is removed from the comments of that person.

Lucia's actually checks both the name and the email address for every comment so if you are posting on the blog you need to use the same name and email address the minimum number of times before the no follow tag is removed

The owner of the site can set the limit from 3 to whatever they feel like but most of the time if they are using the plugin it is set from 3 to 5. This means you will have to leave a relevant comment 3 to 5 times before the no follow tag is removed but when it is removed it is removed from any comments you make from there on.

Now I bet you want to know how this will help you when you are leaving comments. You can actually find posts that are using Lucia's Linky Love but doing a search in Googles Blogsearch. Put your keyword phrase in quotes then a plus sign (+) then in quotes Lucia's Linky and you should find posts on topic that use this plugin. Make the minimum number of comments plus 1 and you now have start creating back links followed by all the search engines.

On the blogs I use this on you will need to post 4 times to get a link back to your site. I read the comments and I delete the spammy ones so the people just trying to get the right number of posts never make it. This encourages more comments and usually adds good information.

Does Article Submission work as SEO to increase rankings?

Boy do I have a story for you. Back in November 2008, on the 20th to be exact, I began a startup business at http://www.article-submission-express.com. I offer a service for submitting articles to various directories on the internet. The articles submitted are unique to each directory. The job of this site is to sell our service to clients who would like to find a way to generate a bunch of one way links to their site, and thus increase their rankings in sites such as Google. As I write this article on December 7, 2008, I am ranked number 101 on Google for the term Article Submissions

Since I am testing many methods that the Gurus say work, the only way I have promoted this site is with a few Google Adwords that cost a few bucks a day, and then I submit articles, just like this one that you are reading describing how it works, and what the results are. I am not writing the article today to sell you on my site, I am writing today to tell you that article submission is successful in getting a site indexed quickly and increasing your rank.

Let me begin by telling you as this writing there are 15,200,000 results when you search on Google for article submissions. Wouldn't you agree that being number 101 after just two weeks and three days out of those results is incredible? I also want to tell you my site was indexed in Google in 3 days. To me, these are incredible results.

I have dedicated myself to the study of search engine optimization over the past several months. I want to rank high for a competitive word, because if I can learn how to do it, I will have many different avenues of income available to me. I have studied people like Aaron Wall and Brad Fallon, I also use Brad Callen's software a lot. I started a few sites, and used different methods for each site to see which of these methods are most successful. Of all the sites I have started, this site with the article submissions and Google Ads has brought me not only the most efficient results, but the most results.

I used code based things such as TrafficBoosterPro which worked for a few days for a keyword on another site I had, but then Google penalized my site, and guess what, I have NEVER recovered. I also tried reciprocal linking, which is controversial, in that Google may not count the links. I am starting to tend to agree, the site I did that on has not ranked at all. I even developed two sites where I build links to one and didn't to the other, but made them on the same topic (they are not duplicate websites), guess what for words they have in common, the one with no links to it is outranking the one that I have actually optimized.

The website that I designed http://www.article-submission-express.com has only been promoted through two very simple methods. Number one the day I had it designed I bought a few obscure Google ads to draw some traffic and make me some sales before I could get a good organic listing, or a listing I didn't have to pay for. I then, used the program that the website sells to submit a few articles about Search Engine Optimization with a link to my website in the resource box, like the one below. These articles are just like the one you are reading now, and in a few weeks I had incredible rankings.

In all the studies I did with SEO, this is the most success I have ever had, and boy am I excited. I have used press releases as of yet, because they are too large of an investment for me at this point. I also with this particular website did not use link building programs or link exchange services. I haven't traded any links, and I don't even provide code to link to my website. I also have not ventured into adding links on a social networking site which would probably increase my rankings further. The website is a controlled experiment. I have to eliminate all variables and use certain techniques to test them against others. I am going to continue to do what I am doing and monitor Google. The best part of the whole bit is I am not at 101 in the rankings so it makes it easy to see which direction I go. Does link Exchange help with SEO?

I started researching what is now known as SEO about 13 years ago. I tried over and over to build the site that I dreamed would rank at the top of Google. At the time I began the key apparently was Meta Tags. I made meta tags just like my competition, and made by key word density for the words in those tags higher. I figured that would easily put me to the top. I waited for months on sites, and I never moved at all. One thing I did find interesting is there were some reputable sites that were stuffing words in like pornography, XXX etc to try to capture free traffic on highly searched words even though their sites were not relevant to those results. Basically after nearly duplicating sites I never improved my rankings.

So then I got into the impression that the size of the site had a lot to do with ranking. Some of the topics I have chosen to build websites on were impossible to build a large site on. Every number one site I saw on google though, if you did a site:http://www.domain.com search had thousands of indexed pages. Then I stumbled upon a program called Traffic Booster Pro. This was the answer to my question. This program basically builds a bunch of junk pages that take content from RSS feeds and make it unique by randomizing the words. It creates thousands of pages all optimized and linked together, and generates a sitemap. Google was crawling my site like crazy. And for one of the most searched words on the internet, I ranked in position 60 within a few weeks. I was so excited, I thought for sure I was right, I needed the bigger site, the larger the site the better I would rank. If I couldn't build that many pages, this program would do it for me, but when my users click on one of those they are redirected to my main page. I got some traffic for a while, and then one day my site crashed for about an hour. The reason it crashed is because Google was crawling it so much the traffic overloaded the data center that I was housing my information. Not the server I was on, the entire data center. My sitemap tracked in Google Sitemaps had thousands of errors. I had my datacenter folks get back online. When I checked my rankings I found all those keywords I was ranked for were dropped to nothing. I went from 60 to not in the top 1000. I thought this would be rectified soon, I adjusted my crawl rate, let my data center know this site was taking a lot of traffic. I waited 2 months and my rankings never came back. The site I had has a unique domain name that is not even a word, and to this day that site doesn't even rank number one for the domain name. Therefore that site has been penalized, there is no other answer.

I studied some Guru's and they said link exchanges were effective. The more links the better. I joined a site called Linkmarket.net and set up my page to exchange links. This is worthless, 400 links later I didn't see a change in rankings. I decided to see if the Guru's were really using this strategy. I go on their websites and they have no partner directories or instructions on exchanging links. They already know this is ineffective. I again so no results from this action. Links do help though. A search for click here on Google leads to a result of number one for Adobe. Best part is Adobe doesn't have the words click here anywhere on the page. Links work, just not exchanged links.

To answer the question no you should not EXCHANGE links. There are two ways to get links to your site that impact your rankings. First of all you share information like this. This article is going to get a bunch of links to my site, and help my rankings, and all I do is share my experience. I do this several times a day with several topics that have to do with my sites. So how do I get links that help my site.

There are two ways. Link bait, and content sharing. Link bait is like the chicken website that Burger King built. I don't know if you ever saw it, but it was a dude dressed up in a chicken suit dancing around and crap. It ranked them number one on Google for the broadest phrase you could think of. Chicken. The drawback to link bait is you have to be extremely creative to get something built that people actually want to link to. Or you can pay an expert in this field thousands to create link bait for your site. There are better ways.

Content sharing is what this is. I am writing an article to inform people. This article, if people like it, will be published on several websites for their users to read. A SEO website trying to provide some free advice may post this article as part of their website content. This benefits the webmaster because adding content frequently gets Search Engines to visit more. The way this can help rankings is if you want to make a change to your site, it takes no time for Google to reflect the change. The catch is to use my content they have to use my resource box. My resource box talks about me and gives a link to my site that I want. So I submit this to a bunch of free content directories where webmasters go to find it. When they find it they can publish it, and then I get links. The best part is even if no webmaster out their publishes my articles, the content directories still link to me. I don't link to anybody on my site, I do still have meta tags, though I don't feel they are very important, and my site has 3 landing pages that are indexed.

To conclude, it is not a big site, website code or meta tags. The highest I have ever ranked came from writing unique articles and distributing them. It is so much fun to share information that I find through articles. It is also a manual process which Google loves. Each one of my articles is unique so Google knows I am not just generating gibberish to throw off their index. This causes my links to be weighted very nicely. My basic job to promote my websites is to share the free information and pull links to my site.

Those who have been in the industry since the late 90's have seen huge changes in SEO. The industry has really matured. But in the grand scheme of things, if you were to plot SEO on a product life cycle chart you would see that the industry is still in its' infancy. SEO - Introduction Stage - Starting about 1998

Companies who were around in the introduction stage often had to build product awareness and develop a market for SEO. In the early '2000's, many of our clients had just build their first websites. This was a significant investment for them and they thought that now that they have a website, the online sales would just flow in. Many didn't realize that they had just invested serious coin into an over-priced business card. Because nobody could find them.

At this point, there was little consistency in the product. And as the algorithm got more complex, the SEO offering varied more. Some companies were offering to "submit to hundreds of search engines" (some still are) whilst others were offering usability, analytics and site architectural input in addition to on-page and off-page SEO.

SEO - Early Growth Stage - we're still just at the beginning of it.

In the early growth stage, smart SEO companies are beginning to think about building their brand and to increase market share. Demand is increasing as more customers understand the benefits of "getting found". There is some competition at this stage but because the market is broadening so much, competition is limited and there is still a huge amount of camaraderie within the industry. 10 years into it, it?s easy to assume that our industry is more mature than it actually is. We've only just begun.

Customer Implication

Demand has already started to increase but it is going to skyrocket. And it's going to come from all types of business from very small customers to Enterprise type of businesses.

Up until recently, the neighborhood dry cleaner didn't care if someone across the country found their website because they deal within a 5 km radius got very little benefit from optimizing their website. Now as local search gets much better, those local business will become much more serious about the opportunities online

It is also likely that we'll see a lot of growth from Enterprise clients. These clients previously resisted SEO due to the complexity of working within legacy back-end systems. As technology increases and back-end systems become less expensive for more capability, we're going to see companies replace their antiquated CMS's with Search Engine Optimization friendly options.

Another change that this stage of the product life cycle will bring is in our relationship with the client. As SEO becomes a bigger part of the mainstream marketing mix, our customers will become more and more knowledgeable about SEO (we?re already starting to see this).

We'll move from having a sales / consultative role to being a thought partner. Our clients will have a good understanding of what needs to be done but they'll outsource it to us because we're more efficient at implementing.

Competition Implication

With high growth in revenues, low barriers to entry, and no certification required, the SEO industry is prime for attracting any and all new entrants. There have always been new competitors. But the face of our competition is going to change greatly. Up until now competition has focused primarily on small start ups and web design firms who decide to add a search component. Some stick around but many are wiped out with the next major shift in the algorithm. This phase of the SEO life cycle is going to attract better capitalized, stronger competition from many sectors. These new entrants are attracted to SEO by the potential for profits not by the fit with their offering.

We are already starting to see traditional media firms seek to protect their eroding revenues by grabbing a slice of the online pie. But WalMart has shown us that future competition could be anyone. And it will be.

No all new entrants are attracted by dollar signs. There are also companies that are feeling increased pressure to offer a more well rounded package. As the integration of offline and online marketing services increases, customers are putting more pressure on agencies to handle the full scope of their marketing spend including the online component.

Although we're already starting to see increased competition, many existing SEO companies aren't feeling the pinch yet because demand is also increasing. One implication of increased demand coupled with new entrants to the market is the impact on supply. We're starting to experience a shortage of experienced SEO talent SEO talent is a scarce resources. And this scared resource is not yet being renewed at a fast enough pace. Whilst some colleges are starting to offer digital media / internet marketing diploma, these grads know very little about what it takes to optimize a website.

Moreover, what they do know is limited to theory. It?s one thing to know that links are important to ranking. Its an entirely different thing to know how to effectively build links. So what?

Who cares where we are in the product life cycle?

Although we've already experienced a lot of growth, this growth is nothing compared to what we?re about to experience. In this next stage of the SEO life cycle, we?re going to see shifts in our clients, competition and product offering. Knowing that this is coming, will allow you to prepare. If we know that face of our competition is going to change from other small to mid sized SEO's to large Agencies and Enterprise size companies in totally unrelated industries then we can prepare for this by determining how we're going to differentiate ourselves from the new entrants.

And if we know that there is going to be increased pressure on skilled resources then we should be developing in house training programs now. The future is now. And it's only just begun.

3 Way Links. Does It Work?

I will be the first to admit that when I first saw this SEO linking system known as 3 way Links by the web guru Jon Leger.. I was a little skeptical.

It seems like one of those "too good to be true" deals that I generally stay away from. But I had a friend that joined and was giving it rave reviews, so I decided to take a closer look at automated link system.

Looking at it now after being on the service for almost a year now, I would say it is not "miracle service" for it cannot grab the #1 spot in a highly competitive niche market, like "insurance" but I know for a fact it has helped me to grab the top rankings in some smaller niche keyword phrases.

It has helped me get to the top of the engines for several "long tail" keyword phrases that requires less link popularity to rank for. It will take a few weeks but it is definitely worth the wait.

The way the links grow is slow, and as your network of links grow, your PR grows.

At first, I tried this on sites that I did not care much about and saw good results the rankings began to climb.

The 3waylinks.net system allows webmasters to add up to 50 domains in their link network in exchange for thier monthly fee. In the beginning I only added 3 of my own websites. I decided to do some otehr things and then months went by and noticed a doubling in traffic to those site. I am now convinced it is worth it. To this day, I am still a member.

On one of my sites on the network, I was able to acheive a top 3 ranking for a highly competitive term (which I will not reveal here..but be assured, I was extremely pleased...

A few tips I will leave with you about 3 way networks:

1. DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT - If you want to test it, test it on sites that are marginally important so that you can find out for yourself if it is good.

2. CONTINUE TO LINK TRADE IN OTHER PLACES - It is definitely dangerous to leave all your linking in only one place. IF you will build a strong network of links all over the net, it will be much better. This will disguise any possible footprint...even though I have not found this to be a problem any way.

3. IT DON'T HELP PR - It didn't help my sites with PR anyway. I find PR to be not such a huge factor in rankings anyway. While I dod keep an aye on it some, I don't base my SEo solely around the concept like some SEO "experts".

4. YOU NEED SOME WEBMASTER SKILLS - The install of the code could make a web newbie cringe, but it is not difficult. IF you need help, email me.

5. CHOOSE THE RIGHT KEYWORDS - I usually pick highly related keywords that are not going against huge competition in terms of sites optimizing for it AND also produces a good bit of traffic according to Google's Adword Keyword Tool.

Stage 3. Aim to make your website 'The Most Popular In Your Class':

Stage 3 of my simple 3-Stage approach to getting my websites highly ranked in the search engines, is crucial because it's the element that contributes about 85% towards how high a website is ranked up the search results.

I refer to it as getting your website to be 'the most popular in the class'. What do I mean by that? Well, think about being at school, and being popular with everyone else was more about being what they wanted you to be. If you were how they wanted you to be, and they liked you, then ultimately you were perceived as popular. Fickle I know. And the more people who thought you were great, the more popular you were with everyone in your class, and possibly your school.

Same goes for your website - the more other websites like you, the more popular your website is going to appear to the search engines, and thus the more popular you are perceived to be for the information the searcher is looking for.

So, million dollar question - how do you get popular with a bunch of other websites? Two things, and they are equally as important...

a) You need to get quality websites linking to your website. b) The websites that are linking to your website need to be as relevant as possible to the information on your website.

Let's cover both of these...

If you do not provided several options that person would have signed up for nothing. Two or three options are plenty. There are plenty of good reasons to have the double opt-in format. Number one, it will take away any chance of being labeled a spammer and secondly, you can show proof that people actually did request your emails.

Also, a double opt-in list will generally have higher quality readers, rather than those from a singe opt-in list. The reason for this is because since these subscribers are interested in your messages enough to reply to the confirmation email, they are much more serious about what you offer. Therefore, they will be more responsive to what you have to offer when compared to those who half-heartedly sign up for your list without a lot of interest. Having a high quality list is absolutely critical to making substantial sales.

As a result, SEO and internet marketing companies in the future will have to make some interesting business decisions:

- do we accept or retain clients with faulty business models? - how do we identify clients with faulty business models - what are the signals? - do we attempt to become management/change consultants too?

What Does This Mean for Businesses?

Ultimately, this means that companies must focus their time and efforts on what it is they do best. They need to ensure they've got solid defensible business models. Improve Your Search Engine Rankings - 3 ways (Part 1)

Everyone has a different opinion how to
improve search engine rankings, and it's clearly a very emotive subject with many people amongst the so-called 'internet SEO (search engine optimisation) experts' fraternity, all of whom have different ideas on how to get a website 'ranked'.

From someone who has had all (yes all) his websites ranked on page one in the Top 5 search results for the Top 3 keywords I have targeted (and these are competitive, high traffic keywords), let me share with you now my thoughts on how to get highly ranked and get your websites listed amongst the top 10 search results for your keywords.

I have a simple 3-Stage Approach to getting ranked high. Here, in Part 1, is my first Stage...

Stage 1. Pick The Right Keyword Phrases:

Firstly I ensure I target keywords that have traffic. What I mean by that is it staggers me how many people think it's all about getting high up the page by being highly ranked, with total regard for the actual amount of traffic a keyword or phrase gets! What's even more staggering are these 'SEO expersts' that offer their services, usually at exorbitant rates, with promises like "we'll get you appearing in the Top 10 Results on 100 pages" when they don't have any idea what keywords are being identified by you as their client.

Let me be really clear on this - anyone can have a Number 1 position for a keyword! ...anyone - just type in a keyword phrase, say with 4 or 5 words in it (this is a 'longtail keyword'), and it is likely to have very little competition that you could dominate the Top Number 1 spot for that search. But what you have to ask yourself is how many people are actually typing in that 5 or 6-word phrase? Probably no-one I suspect.

So here's the thing - yep, it is pretty easy to get highly ranked, like Top 5, for many keywords, but the first thing you need to do is identify if there are a whole bunch of people looking for that keyword, because if there isn't, then getting ranked at even Number 1 spot isn't going to make any difference to your business sales, because even at Number 1, if no-one is searching for that keyword phrase and searching for it, then there's no-one that will ever see you at Number 1.

So, before anything - before you 'optimise' your website (I'll discuss this in Part 2); before you look to get ranked high in the search results; before you do anything, make sure that you are clear on the keywords you are going to target actually have traffic, by which I mean there are lots and lots of people typing in that keyword phrase into a search service looking to find you. Get your keywords right first! ...and make sure they are keywords people are using in their searches - in lots of searches!
